A short commercial has aired and made its way online showing footage of the live action drama xxxHOLiC. News of the series first emerged in September last year, making xxxHOLiC the first live action drama to be based on a manga by CLAMP. It has already been adapted into an anime series by Production I.G.
The story involves teenager Kimihiro Watanuki who is suffering from visions of ghosts and spirits that follow him. By chance he enters a shop that belongs to Yūko Ichihara, a witch who grants people wishes, but for a price. Yūko agrees to help get rid of the spirits drawn to Watanuki, but in return he must work for her in her shop.
The series stars model and actress Anne Watanabe as Yūko, Shota Sometani as Kimihiro Watanuki and Masahiro Higashide plays his unlikely friend Shizuka Dōmeki.
The commercial itself is brief (and is followed by a commercial for the anime movie xxxHOLiC: A Midsummer Night’s Dream), but it’s the first instance of any footage from the upcoming series and it does feature the main trio. There’s no sign of Mokona yet though. Since the initial upload a few more have found their way on WOWOW’s official site for the series, but they are unfortunately region locked.
The eight-episode series is to be shown on Japan’s WOWOW Prime from Sunday 24th February. February will also see the manga return to Kodansha’s Young Magazine with xxxHOLiC: Rei.
Three new 30 second commercials are now finally available to view:
