New Resident Evil game announced!

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Capcom has today announced that a new Resident Evil game for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC is in development titled Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. In addition to this, they have also announced that the forthcoming 3DS title, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, will be shipping with a playable demo of Resident Evil Revelations.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a collaboration between both Capcom and Studio 6 games (who are based in Vancouver), and is scheduled for release this winter. According to Capcom, the game will, “take the series in a completely new direction and offer a style of gameplay yet to be seen from the franchise.”
Operation Raccoon City will deliver a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 in the style of a third person, team based shooter.
Players will have to battle with zombies and bio-organic weapons (B.O.W.s) as well as competing against another squad and tackling a third “unpredictable element.”

The game is set in Raccoon City, 1998 with the action centering on the consequences of the T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. Umbrella orders an elite team into the city in order to cover up the incident by destroying all evidence of the outbreak and eliminating all survivors, but the U.S. government hears of the plan and dispatches its own special forces in order to uncover evidence regarding the virus and Umbrella.
Players will take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S) in the story.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will feature a co-op mode with up to 4 players in a team, but it’s possible to play on your own too.

Many original Resident Evil enemies will be reappearing in Operation Raccoon City, along with iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City police department, and fan favourite characters like Leon S. Kennedy – a rookie police officer for the RCPD who is on your list to eliminate.
Classic Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 moments will be retold in Operation Raccoon City as fans watch the events unfold from Umbrella’s perspective, allowing fans to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will also feature a number of competitive multiplayer modes that will provide “a unique gaming experience” due to the three-way combat between the Umbrella Security Service, the US Special Ops and the threat of zombies and B.O.Ws.

As mentioned above, people purchasing Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS will also receive a demo of the future game, Resident Evil Revelations. The demo lets players take control of Jill Valentine, who is just one of the full game’s characters. Set on a ocean liner, players will “explore the ship’s dark interior, killing any mysterious creatures that emerge from the shadows.”
More information on Resident Evil Revelations is due to be released at E3 in June.
