Captivate 2011 Blowout!

This past week Capcom held a massive showcase of their latest offerings, aptly named Captivate 2011. Although the event ended over a week ago, the embargo was lifted and now the information is now available to the masses. Hot off the press, we give you the latest announcements from Captivate 2011!

Dragon’s Dogma

First up is the brand new IP Dragon’s Dogma. This is a new, open world action game developed by one of Capcom’s Biggest, most experienced teams. Boasting the names of Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 4)  and Hideaki Itsuno ( Devil May Cry 3 and 4) and allegedly having a long development cycle, this game will not be one to miss with it’s distinctively western styling. In the game you will be able to choose one of three character classes; Strider (think Archer), a Mage and a Fighter.  The game features a “grab system” and is shown to be able to grasp onto both small and large enemies. It also has a vast world with hundreds of NPC’s and villages. Although the game already looks impressive, the game still has a year of production to go and is scheduled for an early 2012 release for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Street Fighter X Tekken

This game was announced as a surprise during Comic-Con last year and after that, the game was almost never spoken of again until now. Yoshinori Ono, the lead developer of the title wants to make the game accessible to both veteran players of Street Fighter and Tekken. It also features an online mode, where you are able to battle people around the world. The game itself sports a tag system, with players being able to take their primary character out and bring their secondary in. The control scheme largely remains the same as Super Street Fighter IV. utilising 6 buttons and and 8 way directional joystick. In addition to this, they announced brand new characters to their roster listed below;

Confirmed Cast:
Ryu (Street Fighter)                Kazuya (Tekken)
Chun-Li (Street Fighter)          Nina (Tekken)
Guile (Street Fighter)              King (Tekken)
Abel (Street Fighter)               Bob (Tekken)
Ken (Street Fighter)               Marduk (Tekken)
The game is targeting a 2012 release and will be available to both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Asura’s Wrath

Asura’s Wrath is a quirky new title developed by Cyberconnect2, developers of The Naruto Ultimate Ninja games and the .hack// series of games. Asura’s wrath’s main inspiration is a vast Asian mythology with a dose of pure insanity. In the game Asura’s daughter has been kidnapped and Asura is well… How do you put it. Gone completely  insane, like any good father would be. And in his quest to get his daughter back he has to go through gods, enemies the size of the Eiffel Tower and even the size of The Earth itself! Although not much is known about this Action adventure title, aside from it’s narrative will be episodic. It promises to be the craziest game since Platinum Games’ Bayonetta! The game plays like an Action/Adventure title and has no real release window yet. It will be available for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Dead Rising 2: Off the record

Although Dead Rising 2 was released last year, the developers wanted to do something a little more, so they added the previous protagonist from Dead Rising and put him in Dead Rising 2 :Off the Record. They add in a small segment that bridges the story Of Frank West in the first game to the second, in an alternate dimension. Other than this, not many other changes have been made from Dead Rising 2 aside from new environments, missions, weapons and vehicles. Much like the Dragon Age Expansion Dragon Age: Awakening. The game is set to be released in Autumn for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

This game takes place between the events in the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. However there is a twist on this from the other Resident Evil games, you take control of the Umbrella Corporation’s Black ops. The campaign can be played in 4 Player Co-op or single player, this highly reminds me of Valve’s Left 4 Dead series as Co-op with your friends remains a massive part of the gameplay. There is an online multiplayer mode which enables you to fight against the US special op’s and zombies, shaking it up using 3 factions fighting instead of the usual 2. This third person shooter with a Resident Evil twist is scheduled for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 this Autumn.

Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D

A title for the 3DS and one that is stunningly presented and just as Street Fighter did on the 3DS, Resident Evil Mercenaries manages to take the graphical threshold to another level. The basic premise of the game is to score as many points as possible by smashing, whacking and bashing Zombies to their doom. As in true Resident Evil Style you are in a third person shooting mode and *SHOCK HORROR* Move and shoot at the same time! This title is due for release on 3DS this Summer.

Super Street Fighter IV : Arcade Edition

The newest iteration of the Street Fighter Series is out in Japan and selected arcades kitted out with the newest characters and balancing changes. Capcom announced last week that they plan to distribute this as DLC for Super Street Fighter IV and as a single release on disc for a discounted price. In addition to this, Capcom also announced that they will be taking Super Street Fighter IV : Arcade Edition to PC. The game is due for release on June the 7th  on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in July.
