Here’s Bane – Viral Marketing for The Dark Knight Rises begins and recent cast additions

Even though the film won’t be released for over a year, and shooting begun just a few weeks ago, the viral campaign for The Dark Knight Rises has started, resulting in Warner Bros. releasing the first official still of Tom Hardy in costume as Bane.

Anyone who took part in the Why So Serious campaign for The Dark Knight will recall how monumental it was. As one of the best examples of viral marketing in recent years, cryptic clues led players to calling mobile phone numbers, visiting certain landmarks across the world, and even picking up Joker cakes. In turn, they were rewarded with exclusive footage and preview tickets.

The short of it is that the link to it came from a Twitter account known as ‘@thefirerises’, which has been tweeting the link out to its followers. Those of you on Twitter might want to follow this account, for it may lead to more exclusives.

There have also been some recent cast additions to the Christopher Nolan sequel, with Matthew Modine, best known for Full Metal Jacket, set to play a character named Nixon. Also Tom Conti, known for Shirley Valentine and recently seen in The Tempest, and Joey King, who recently starred in Battle: Los Angles, have also joined the cast, though their characters have not yet been revealed.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in the UK and US on July 20th 2012.
