Puss in Boots – New Poster and Trailer

DreamWorks Animation has released a new poster and a second trailer for Puss in Boots. A spin off from the Shrek franchise, Puss in Boots was introduced in Shrek 2 as a parody of Antonio BanderasZorro character.

The film is a prequel of Puss in Boots’ adventures leading up to his encounter with Shrek, and sees him teaming up with Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis), and Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) to stop the murderous outlaws Jack & Jill (Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris).

Paying homage to Zorro, the trailer features the title character sword fighting, dancing and running across rooftops, as well as doing a stunt while riding a horse. Even the piece of music that plays towards the end (Hans Zimmer’s Too Many Notes-Not Enough Rest) is the same one featured in the trailer of Banderas’ The Mask of Zorro. The inclusion of Salma Hayek suggests that the film may also include references to Banderas’ El Mariachi character, as seen in Desperado, which both Banderas and Hayek starred in. Though the chances of seeing Puss in Boots coming across a guitar case full of weapons is unlikely.

After Shrek ended up living happily ever after in Shrek Forever After, this could be the start of a new franchise for DreamWorks Animation.

Puss in Boots opens in the US on November 4th, and in the UK on December 9th.
