Shatner confirms no part in Star Trek 2

JJ ABRAMS is always one to spring a surprise or two in his productions.

Be it the twists in his TV shows or the cameos in his films, he’s never shy in giving fan boys what they want.

In his Star Trek reboot, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) was given a small (but still pleasing) part as…well, Spock.

With Star Trek 2 set to begin shooting, there had been many calls for William Shatner to be given a guest-star.

However, the man himself has confirmed he will play no part in the latest outing in Trek-land.

Whilst appearing at the Calgary Expo in Canada, he said: “I’ve become an acquaintance of JJ but, I’m afraid I will not be in Star Trek 2.”

So there we have it folks. The Shat won’t be back.

What do Trek fans think of this news? Is there a part for the former Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek universe? Is his participation really needed to tell a new tale?

Why not let us know your feelings of this latest development.

Star Trek 2 is slated for a 2012 release.
