Cobra Strikes: “Rocks a Joe!”

If you loved the first G.I. Joe movie and you love Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as WWE‘s The Rock), then you’re going to love the fact that the man himself has just confirmed today that he will be starring in the G.I. Joe sequel. The announcement that was posted on Facebook has already received over 6000 ‘likes’ and nearly 1000 comments.

Dwayne Johnson‘s first major role was in The Mummy Returns as a character that goes by the name of The Scorpion King. This was also the role that put Johnson firmly on the acting map and away from his usual wrestling image. He has also played various roles in films such as Doom, Get Smart and most recently, Fast Five (also known as the fifth instalment of the Fast and Furious films).

G.I. Joe is a science fiction/action film based on the the G.I. Joe toys, cartoon and comic series. The first movie: The Rise of Cobra was released in 2009 and featured Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as part of the main cast. The second movie: Cobra Strikes has yet to have any other confirmation on who will be joining Johnson; apart from the fact that Levitt will not be coming back as the character of Cobra Commander. Rumours on-line have speculated that Stephen Martines might be one of the actors who will now join Johnson in the movie.

The release date for G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes to hit cinemas in the US is 10th August 2012. No date has been confirmed for the UK, so keep your eyes peeled and don’t miss it!
