Ted Danson To Head CSI Las Vegas!

In the long history of the C.S.I. there have been many interesting castings but none more interesting than the recent announcement of who will be playing the new shift leader for the C.S.I. Vegas team when the show returns for its 12th season this fall. None other than Cheers alumnus Ted Danson!

It is thought that Danson was one of a few actors being considered for the role on a list that included names such as Robin Williams, Tony Shaloub and John Lithgow. However according to the show’s executive producer Don McGill, Danson was the natural choice; “From the moment we all started talking about the role, it was clear he couldn’t be more perfect. Intelligence, wit, warmth, depth of character and emotion, he brings it all.  And now he’ll have to bring latex gloves, too.”  Whether or not he remains a natural choice remains unseen but if you look at the actors credentials he is certainly not someone to be sniffed at as he has been nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards (Of which he has won two), he has earned 10 Golden Globe nominations ( Of which he has won three), has been nominated for 2 American Comedy Awards (Of which he won one) and he has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award.

The role itself will see Danson play an as yet unnamed character who is said to have run a crime lab in Portland Oregon, and is likely to have a tough time when he joins a team who are still struggling with the professional and personal ramifications of last season’s Nate Haskell serial killer case.

Danson will be replacing Laurence Fishburne as the new Vegas shift leader, a man who lasted only two-and-a-half seasons and despite this new role he we will also continue on with his part on the HBO series Bored To Death. How this double duty is set to affect his roles on either show has yet to be determined but one would speculate that he would be featuring in a more recurring role on C.S.I. as he is still signed as a series regular on Bored To Death, a show which also usually premieres in September.

So with a new night (Wednesdays) and a new shift leader could C.S.I. continue it successful run or will this season be the death of the show? Fans can find out when the show returns on September 21st on CBS.

What are your thoughts on this casting? Who would you have cast in the role? Do you think it will be difficult for Danson to go to a show where everybody knows his name? Add your thoughts in the comments below!
