No Kurt, Finn or Rachael in Glee Season 4! But maybe a Glee spinoff?

Following our previous report on the plans for the third season to be end of the road for the current members of McKinley High’s New Directions, Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy, has stated definitively that Season 4 will not feature characters Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) in ANY WAY!.

He goes on to say in an interview THR that starting with the opening episode of the new season (Which airs on September 20th) Gleeks will get a better idea of who will be graduating and who will not be. Whilst many Gleeks (the collective name given to fans of the show) are unhappy with the decision to lose their favourite characters Murphy’s reasoning does indeed appear to be sound and one that very few people could argue with as he states that; “You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the

show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Murphy then goes on to talk more about the themes for the upcoming season and that a large part of the season will be spent examining the characters plans for the future and what they want to do beyond the impending graduation in particular. Murphy also goes on to talk further about the characters personal relationships and despite the fact that he enjoyed the love roulette of last season, this coming year would see things calm down relationship wise for the New Directions.  The reason for this  he  describes as being due to the fact that he is “much more interested in Lea’s character — not so much on her relationship with Finn, but more on what her dreams are beyond high school and how she plans on getting them.”.

So while this might be sad news for fans of the show in another report from TVLine, Murphy hints that he is not against the idea of spinoff featuring Kurt and Rachel as they try to make it big in New York. “It’s an interesting idea,” he comments. “The questions are ‘How would we do it? And when would we do it?’ It would have to be something I would talk about to Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly and Dana Walden and Gary Newman. What we’re trying to do now — maybe those discussions will happen around December.”

So maybe we won’t have seen the last of Kurt and Rachel in the world of Glee? Only Murphy and Fox know for sure and meanwhile the Gleek fraternity worldwide can only but wait until the new season for more answers.

What do you think Glee will be like sans Rachel, Finn and Kurt? Do you think that Puck will be held back from graduating? Add your thoughts in the comments below.
