New Super Smash Bros Wii U Details

Masahiro Sakurai, the man behind the Smash Bros. series and the upcoming Kid Icarus, has announced that the new Smash Bros, which will be released on the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, will be a huge improvement over its predecessors. According to Sakurai, the previous outing, Super Smash Bros. Brawl was not without its flaws. The as-yet untitled Wii U addition aims to improve on the issues brought up during discussions about the next game.

Sakura stated that “There are many things that can be improved upon even in Brawl. Also, I think you can base your expectations of the new Smash Bros. once you see how well-made Kid Icarus is. The director of each game is the same, but because I regularly change my team around after projects, we will be able to see how good the team is then.

Details at this early stage are limited, but Sakurai assumes that the character list should be fairly similar to the one found in the previous game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The 3DS and Wii U version will be compatible with each other in some way, and with plans to scrap the somewhat irritating friend code system adopted for the Wii, the online play and overall game play should be vastly improved. The graphics are also expected to have a full HD overhaul, so fans are expected to notice a lot of impressive changes.

Unfortunately, those who are hoping to see Smash Bros. as a launch title for the Wii U may be disappointed, for Sakurai announced in his weekly Famitsu column that this title will be “several years away.” As the Smash Bros. games have always been huge sellers when released, it seems a shame that Nintendo may pass up on the opportunity of shifting large quantities of this title when the Wii U is first launched.
