Sebastian Roche to Join Cast of The Vampire Diaries

Former Supernatural and Fringe guest star, Sebastian Roche, has been announced as one of the new recurring guest stars to appear in the third season of the CW‘s hit series, The Vampire Diaries.

Roche, who is known as the Angel Balthazar in Supernatural, and shapeshifting soldier Newton in Fringe, is set to become a new face around Mystic Falls, as a New Vampire Hunter on the trail of the Original Vampire, Klaus. Roche’s character was to be named Eric, but this has had to be changed due to the parallels shared with HBO‘s True Blood character of the same name.

Klaus, played by Joseph Morgan, was last seen in the Season 2 finale, As I Lay Dying, following a ritual which broke a curse that had been placed upon him – the Sun and Moon curse- which would enable the Werewolf/Vampire hybrid Klaus to access his werewolf side.

Roche will be joining former Heroes star, Jack Coleman, announced earlier this hiatus as being cast as a former Mystic Falls resident, Bill, who is set to be returning to the small town in Virginia.

On Roche’s character, Vampire Diaries Executive producer Julie Plec says that:

“[Roche will play] a very mysterious man who appears to be hunting vampires, most specifically Klaus. For some reason, Klaus, who shouldn’t be afraid of anybody, seems to be concerned about this person.”

Sebastian Roche AND Jack Coleman ?! This show’s cast just seems to be getting better and better ^_^

The Vampire Diaries returns to the CW on September 15th.
