Monkey Island Special Edition Collection Gains An XBLA Release

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge are now available to purchase on Xbox 360 and PS3, as a special edition collection. Some of the Monkey Island games may already be on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but it appears that the time has come to give them a little polish and revamp, as both games are also avaialble as a single download collection on the Xbox Live Marketplace for all you point and click adventure fans.

The Monkey Island series, released by LucasArts Games and Telltale Games, debuted with The Secret of Monkey Island on the MS-DOS, Atari ST and Macintosh platforms in 1990. There have been six games since then, which are currently available on the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and iOS. The games follow the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, who’s bizarre name (and others inability to pronounce it) tends to be a running joke throughout the games.

Both games have remastered HD graphics, a remastered musical score, an improved hint system, new treasures, and a re-recorded voiceover.  Once again, players will find themselves in Guybrush Threepwood’s shoes during both adventures.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Collection was released on the 9th September 2011, for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. While it is available to purchase on the Xbox Live Arcade, for some reason, the price has not been announced on the game’s page over on the Xbox 360 website as of yet. If you would rather not wait for the download version to be released, then game is available to purchase on disc online at your local or online retailer with a RRP of £20.
