Capcom Defends Street Fighter X Tekken’s Exclusive Characters on Playstation 3

A few weeks ago came the announcement that Sony’s feline mascots, Kuro and Turo, would be exclusive characters for the PS3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken. They would be joining Cole McGrath from Infamous, who was also revealed to be an exclusive character back in June.

This recently led to a thread being started on Capcom’s official forums asking, “What about 360 fans? Are fans that play Xbox going to get ignored in Street Fighter X Tekken?Capcom USA’s senior vice-president Christian Svensson answered by saying, “Guys, we’ve done lots of exclusive content on Xbox 360 platforms (DR1, DR2 [Dead Rising], Lost Planet, etc.). We spread the love around from time to time. Nothing more I can say on the topic for the near term.”

It then turns out that the issue largely resides with Microsoft, not Capcom, after a forum moderator stepped in to say, “It all comes down to Microsoft wanting exclusives in. Sadly, these days they aren’t as aggressive in pushing this kind of content.” Also, the game’s producer, Yoshinori Ono, has previously said that exclusive characters for the XBOX 360 version would, “depend entirely on Microsoft.

The recent response adds a bit of clarity as to why the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat 9 included God of War’s Kratos as an exclusive character, whereas the XBOX 360 version had no additional characters, even though the game’s developer, Ed Boon, wanted to include one

In terms of extra characters, it looks like the PS3 version of the game might be the one to go for, but this could ultimately say more about Microsoft and their stance on exclusive content, particularly for future XBOX 360 games.

Street Fighter X Tekken is not out till 2012, so until then, anything could change.
