Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day

The Legend of Zelda may have celebrated its 25th anniversary a short while ago, but even more celebrations have been announced this week, with The Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day taking place on October 29th at Nottingham’s games event GameCity.

GameCity runs from 26th to 29th October, with Nottingham’s Old Market Square being the setting for The Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day. The square will be transformed into a fully operational Hyrulian marketplace, where there is the chance to take part in some Zelda activities, sample each of the stalls and take in the authentic Legend of Zelda experience.

Fans will be given the opportunity to play the latest Zelda game, Skyward Sword before it is released on November 18th, and there is also a chance to learn how to play the ocarina, the instrument made famous by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Complete the lesson and you’ll not only walk away with your very own ocarina, but have the chance to join in renditions of a series of some of the game’s most familiar songs with your brand new, limited edition ocarina.

Visitors can take a break from the music playing by visiting the Lon Lon Milk Bar before heading on to create their very own sword and shield. You’ll also get the opportunity to collect pieces of the Triforce and complete the Hero’s Quest (this will become more clear when the event has started).

In the weeks before the Zelda Takeover Day begins, fans are being urged to contribute to a fanzine which will be available to purchase at the event, and there is even a chance to film your own declarations of love to this hugely popular franchise throughout the day.

The biggest part of the event comes in the form of the Zelda Canon Speed Run. This puts six Zelda experts into a team that will aim to complete 15 games in the Legend of Zelda series, from start to finish. It’s expected to last over 100 hours and will be a huge achievement to the fans involved. Official Nintendo Magazine has details on how to join in this challenge

With an impressive list of Zelda themed events, it appears there is plenty to keep fans of the series happy on the day. Will you be attending?
