Blade Runner 2 Meets its Maker

They say all good things come to those who wait and finally it appears as though for movie fans, all that waiting has paid off ,as the second Blade Runner film has now, officially I may add, got a writer. The brave man in question is one Scott Burns, who now has the difficult, some may say near impossible task, of equalling the 1982 cult classic.

Fans should fear not though, as if Burns previous credit are anything to go by, these include box office successes such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Contagion more, then it would appear at least on paper, that he is more than capable of delivering us a worthy sequel to this classic movie.

The second Blade Runner film began its return to the big screen back in March after Alcon Entertainment purchased the rights to the film with the backing of Warner Bros. Since then there have been more false leads than an Agatha Christie novel, however it has been widely reported that all parties – including Ridley Scott who is rumoured to be directing the second instalment too – are now in agreement and are currently in ‘active talks’ to make the much discussed film happen.

The rumours that Ridley Scott is to direct once more have been met with mixed feelings by fans, due largely to his recent lack of box-office hits but as many will point out, Blade Runner was never a commercial success when it was originally released in the first place. The visually stunning film was released in 1982 and followed Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a Blade Runner who is called upon to hunt down and ‘retire’ six rogue replicants, illegal manufactured humanoids with a limited life-span and peculiar dress sense. But Deckard’s morality is questioned when he falls for replicant, Rachael, who makes him realise the value of life and the importance of time.

Whether or not the new Blade Runner will be a sequel or a prequel still remains unclear, however the news that a writer has been confirmed is most definitely a step in the right direction.
