Bob Anderson the true Lightsabre fighting Darth Vader has died!

We are sorry to announce the sad news of the passing of Bob Anderson.

You may not have heard of Bob unless maybe you are an ardent Star Wars fan. I had the good fortune of being introduced to Bob by a friend who was also a stuntman on the Star Wars movies, Peter Diamond.

I originally met Bob at Pinewood Studios on the set of the James Bond movie ‘Die Another Day’ where he was teaching Madonna how to fence as she was making a cameo appearance in the movie.

After the meeting I worked with Bob Anderson 2 or 3 times, he was a very nice person as was Peter Diamond who is sadly missed!

On 2 of the Star Wars movies ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ & ‘Return Of The Jedi’, Bob was the person who did all of the lightsabre fights instead of Dave Prowse who is credited along with James Earl Jones as being a part of the Darth Vader character.

After the war he trained as a fencing coach, representing Britain at the 1952 Olympics and at the 1950 & 1953 World Championships.

In the 1950s Bob became the coach of Britain’s national fencing team, a post he kept until the late 70s.

His first film work was staging fights and coaching Errol Flynn on the swashbuckler The Master of Ballantrae.

Bob went on to become one of the industry’s most sought-after fight directors and sword masters, working on films including the James Bond adventures From Russia With Love (1963) and Die Another Day (2002); The Princess Bride (1987); The Legend of Zorro (2005); and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Bob was 89
