Monk Returning in Two Hour Movie

Two and a half years after solving what looked to be his final case, it has been announced that Monk, the “obsessive, compulsive detective” is coming back.

In an interview with, the show’s creator Andy Breckman announced “Just today as we did this interview, I just finished writing a Monk movie.” He also mentioned that he expects the two hour TV movie to be shot in California this summer before revealing some plot details. “I’ll even tell you the title of it. ‘Mr. Monk for Mayor’. He runs for mayor of San Francisco.” He expects the movie to air this December, and would like to do a sequel. Beckman said, “Monk did such a great job that I want to do it again.”

The show originally aired between 2002 and 2009 and over the course of eight seasons, helped actor Tony Shalhoub to pick up three Emmy awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. You can see an interview where he discusses the character, Adrian Monk, below.
