Last Episode of Bleach Anime Series Announced

Bleach started out as a manga series in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump in August of 2001. In March 2006 Viz Media claimed the rights to air an anime adaption, which also spawned a series of movies and musicals based around the orange haired lead character ‘Ichigo‘.

It was recently revealed that the final episode of the anime series will be broadcast on 27th March at 18.00 on TV Tokyo. This was apparently confirmed by the animation director Hiroki Takagi. When a Twitter follower of Takagi’s tweeted a image of a Japanese TV Listings magazine stating it was the last episode, the director replied back with, “So quick. I was going to paste it… /(^o^)\.

This news comes as a shock to many fans, as it was only recently reported that an American live action adaption of the franchise is scheduled to go ahead. Looking through the comments of fans, some think its a little too soon, or too abrupt. Others think it was long overdrawn and can’t wait to see what the director has in store for us next.

Just like Dragon Ball, One Piece and Naruto, Bleach gathered a huge amount of fans for its originality and attention to in depth storytelling. There are rumours spreading that this could possibly be a “Year Out” so that the manga can have enough time to zoom in front, leaving the anime adaption to catch up. But if it really is the end, I think its kind of sad. This is another one of those series’ that you will tell your children about, saying, “This is what my daytime children’s shows looked like.”

What are your thoughts, would you have wanted to see the series develop more? Are you sad to see it going? What kind of ending do you think it will have?
