Chloë Moretz cast in horror remake of Carrie

Last year came the news that MGM and Screen Gems were working on a remake of horror classic Carrie to be directed by Kimberly Peirce. It’s now been confirmed that Chloë Moretz has been cast in the lead role.

The character of Carrie White appeared to be between Moretz and Haley Bennett. After winning the part, Moretz turned to Twitter where she announced the news, tweeting, “Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget! Could not be happier!!!” This would not be her first horror remake, having previously been drenched in blood in Let Me In (pictured).

Word is that Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore are currently in the running to play the role of Carrie’s mother, Margaret White.

A remake of Brian De Palma’s film released in 1976, Carrie is based on Stephen King’s horror novel about a teenage girl who discovers that she has mysterious telekinetic powers. Actress Sissy Spacek is synonymous with the role of Carrie from the original film, which landed her an Oscar nomination.

Moretz recently starred in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and will next be seen in Tim Burton’s upcoming Dark Shadows.

Carrie is expected to shoot later this year with a release planned for 2013.

What do you make of this casting choice? Are you looking forward to a remake of Carrie?
