Trailer for Total Recall remake lands

After a short teaser, Sony Columbia Pictures have now released the first trailer for the new Total Recall remake.

The film presents a future where fantastical dreams can become real inserted memories, all thanks to the company Rekall. Factory worker Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) decides to pay them a visit, much to his wife Lori’s (Kate Beckinsale) disdain. Feeling that having memories of living life as a spy might be just what he needs, the procedure unfortunately goes wrong. Suddenly Quaid finds himself having to go on the run from the police.

The original film was released back in 1990 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as showcasing some impressive special effects for the time. However, producer Neal H. Moritz and director Len Wiseman seem keen to point out that their new iteration will be closer to Philip K. Dick’s short story, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, while expanding on its themes of memory and identity. Wiseman has commented how after reading the script by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback, he found it to be “a very different take” on the story. Unlike the original film and story, Mars appears to be absent here, with the action remaining largely on Earth.

The initial look of the trailer may conjure thoughts of Dick’s previous adaptations, namely Blade Runner and Minority Report, but there does seem to be a nod towards the original thrown in there (“If I’m not me, then who the hell am I?”).
