David Yates reconfirms Doctor Who movie

Director, David Yates caused a stir a few months ago when he announced that he will be developing a Doctor Who movie seperate from the popular BBC One show.

Since then, Doctor Who head writer, Steven Moffat, has responded by saying: “To clarify, any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and would certainly not be a Hollywood reboot.”

We caught up with David on the red carpet of the Harry Potter studio tour launch to ask him more about what was going on.

He said: “There’s nothing really to tell other than it’s a long way away from being made – probably five years. It will happen but we need to develop it and we need to take our time to do that, so five or seven years will probably do it. Don’t hold your breath, please be patient and we’ll get there.” When asked about casting ideas, he added: “Oh no no no, we need to sort the scripting first.”

From this we can assume that David Yates is definitely intent on creating a Who movie, however it seems that he might meet some opposition from the BBC themselves unless an agreement is made.

What do you think? Would you like to see a Doctor Who movie made by David Yates? Let us know in the comments.
