Jim Carrey for Kick-Ass 2?

With the sequel to 2010’s fantastic superhero satire Kick-Ass in pre-production, Kick-Ass 2 creator Mark Millar and the writer/director of the film adaptation Jeff Wadlow both hit the Twitterverse with not-so-cryptic hints behind their casting of the character ‘Colonel Stars’.

Spouting clues that point towards Jim Carrey (“Named by Spielberg as a genius” – Steven Spielberg‘s response to Carrey‘s roast of him over not casting Carrey in any of his films) and roles you may remember him from such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (“He lives with 200 raccoons and parrots”) and The Mask (“Owns the mask of Loki”), Millar and Wadlow all but confirmed there and then that they had cast the rubber-faced actor.

This follows previous rumours of Carrey being eyed up for the role, and having seen Carrey dressed up as Kick-Ass previously singing ‘It’s Not Easy Being Superman’ with chat-host Conan O’Brien, it might just be a role that Carrey would be interested in.

Colonel Stars, the character Carrey would be playing is described as an ex-thug and born again Christian who sets up Justice Forever, a Justice League-type team of vigilantes in the Kick-Ass universe.

With Scrubs’ Donald Faison also set to appear in the sequel as well as original cast members Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse returning from the first movie, Kick-Ass 2 is shaping up to be even bigger and better.

With Nicholas Cage’s turn in the first film delivering a shining performance in his career, Carrey could certainly do the same here. Bring it on Jim, kick some ass.

Kick-Ass 2 is set to start shooting soon for a July 19th 2013 release in the UK.
