Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan in The World’s End

Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan will be joining the cast of The World’s End, the final film in the Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy. The trilogy began with zombie spoof Shaun of the Dead (red) and continued with cop comedy Hot Fuzz (blue). The World’s End (green) will tell the story of a group of five friends (Pegg, Frost, Freeman, Marsan and Paddy Considine) who embark on a legendary pub crawl, culminating with a bar called The World’s End. But in an unfortunate coincidence, the actual apocalypse is seemingly happening around them. Will they be able to get to The World’s End before the world’s end?

The new cast members seem like excellent choices. Martin Freeman, though mostly known for his TV work on The Office and Sherlock, is headlining Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit as Bilbo Baggins. Though he appeared very briefly in both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, this will be his first leading role in a Edgar Wright film. One of the most prolific British actors at the moment, he is effortless charming and loveable.

Eddie Marsan also has a connection to the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, having appeared as Inspector Lestrade in both of the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies. He was also in V for Vendetta, Tyrannosaur and Hancock.

Not much else is known at the moment about The World’s End (except that it’s set to be released in the UK on August 14th 2013), but if it’s even half as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, then we are in for a treat.
