Aliens: Colonial Marines Multiplayer Preview at London MCM Expo

Coming out in Febuary 2013, Aliens: Colonial Marines is one of the most anticipated third person shooters on the horizon. I was able to sit down with a group of fellow gamers to play through one of the game’s multiplayer deathmatch modes. We were the marines, the developers were the Aliens and the battle was on.

While the Aliens were fast moving, agile and able to run on the walls and ceilings with ease, as the marines we started off as sitting ducks! While we were slow moving, we did have firepower on our side, only needing a few well placed shots to take an Alien down.

Initially, we all ran for cover, separately looking for a way to survive; a that strategy very quickly turned out to be fatal. With their ability to leap through the air and instantly begin attacking, the Aliens were able to get the drop on us time and time again, easily picking us off.

The tide of the battle did however change around halfway through the match. That was because we started talking, co-ordinating and working together. We found a small area we could group in together with limited access points, had people looking in each direction, and soon we were picking them off with ease. We couldn’t successfully pull off an offence that way, but it gave us a fighting chance at survival.

The multiplayer game was fast paced, tense and required a huge amount of teamwork on the part of the human players. There was a real sense that one wrong move would cost your life and the Aliens were a force to be reckoned with.

Did you play it yourself? What did you think? Are you looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Marines? Do you think you have what it takes to defeat an enemy faster and more agile than yourself? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U on February 12th, 2013.
