Arnold Schwarzenegger takes The Last Stand – Final Trailer

Lionsgate have released the final trailer for the Arnold Schwarzenegger action film The Last Stand. Despite having a small part in The Expendables 2, the film is being heralded as Schwarzenegger’s official comeback to the big screen. At 65 years old it’s a role that also highlights his age, playing a burnt out sheriff of a small town.

Sheriff Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a former LAPD officer who has resigned himself to working in the peaceful border town of Sommerton Junction. However, the peaceful existence is about the get a wake up call after drug kingpin Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) escapes from the FBI and along with his heavily armed gang races his way to the border in a Corvette ZR1. Hoping to pass straight through Sommerton Junction, what Cortez doesn’t count on is Sheriff Owens and his small rag-tag team ready to stop him.

So far, so 1980s, but that seems to be the film’s draw, particularly with the recent success of ‘back to basics’ action films such as The Expendables and Taken, both of which resulted in sequels released this year.

The Last Stand is directed by Kim Jee-Woon, responsible for powerhouses such as I Saw the Devil, A Bittersweet Life and The Good, The Bad, The Weird. One only needs to watch either of the latter two films to know that Jee-Woon can certainly do action and this new trailer showcases plenty of it. The Last Stand also co-stars Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzmán and Peter Stormare. It is set for release in the US on January 18th 2013, and in the UK a week later on January 25th.
