S.H.I.E.L.D. to shoot pilot in January

The Marvel show S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to film its pilot in January. A website for tv show auditions advertised the fact as part of a casting call package. The show’s pilot is to be directed by Joss Whedon himself with the help of his usual collaborators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tanchareon.

“‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will be independent from ‘The Avengers’ film, and people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies can jump right in and understand the storylines. There will generally be new characters and agents who are not superheroes, and even though they are a large organization, the will be underdogs since they still exist in that superhero universe. Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in ‘Iron Man 1&2‘. ‘Thor‘ and ‘The Avengers‘. The series will center on his character. Screen Actors Guild nominee Ming-Na Wen has been cast as Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert.”

It looks like the January spot is a nice convenient gap where the principal shooting for Thor: The Dark World will have finished and before shooting begins on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There are still some major casting decisions to make before then so expect to hear more announcements in the next month or so.
