Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

One of gaming’s biggest heavyweights is gearing towards another big-time outing. Rockstar Games recently revealed the latest trailer for their latest instalment in their popular and controversy-filled franchise Grand Theft Auto with their newest outing: Grand Theft Auto V.

Not to spoil the trailer too much… but it looks fantastic. Check it out for yourself below:

Very cool stuff. Rockstar Games has been dishing out information on the game, continuing to whet our appetites. In the years since 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV, things have evolved throughout the production of GTA V. Pulling ideas and developments from other Rockstar projects since, such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto V looks to be a fitting successor to the previous foray in this current gaming generation.

For one thing, the singular protagonist is gone. Grand Theft Auto V proves that more is king, offering three original and uniquely-designed protagonists from three different backgrounds that you’ll be able to play in the main storyline.

First is Michael, who has the mansion estate in the Rockford Hills with his family and is on the witness protection program. Then there’s Trevor. Trevor has the complete opposite situation despite once being best friends with Michael back in the day, but something happened. Michael managed to get a life of luxury while Trevor ended up in the desert, in a trailer, and insane. Finally there’s Franklin, the new kid on the block and as things progress in the story he eventually crosses paths with Michael, forming the trio of characters.

Throughout the game you will be swapping between each of the characters, and when their paths intersect you’ll even be able to choose which character and subsequently what role you want to play in that particular mission, giving a more varied and customisable route in playing the game.

So many other details have been revealed about the new game, such as the world being 3.5 times larger than Red Dead Redemption, which actually means one could fit the maps of Red Dead, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas into GTA V’s map and still have space.

All we can really say right now alongside added speculation fuelled by the content of the trailer is that Grand Theft Auto V is looking really impressive and a welcome addition to the franchise. With the game now offering three protagonists to play with as well as intertwined storylines, GTA V looks like it will be yet another triple-A title from Rockstar.

Look out for Grand Theft Auto V coming to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in Spring 2013.
