Joss Whedon’s “Much Ado About Nothing” Trailer

Much Ado About NothingAs some will know, while making The Avengers, Joss Whedon also made a much smaller movie project on the side: an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. One can’t deny that Whedon and Shakespeare are a match made in heaven, both being kings of storytelling and dialogue (who could forget Whedon’s usage of “mewling quim” in The Avengers?).

Much Ado About Nothing brings those two worlds together. Given the shock announcement of the movie out of the blue last year, complete with a poster and cast list to make fans drool, the movie is slowly reaching a theatrical release. It has been given fantastic reviews on limited screenings, but the masses can now have their first real feast on the time with this, the first trailer. You can watch it below:

Pretty cool stuff, huh? Between the artistic choice of filming in black and white combined with Shakespeare’s prose in a more modern context, Much Ado About Nothing from Joss Whedon looks to be Shakespeare like you’ve never seen before. A much more reserved take compared to that of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet.

Another great piece of pulling power is the cast. Let’s just list some names off: Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Reed Diamond, Fran Kranz, Sean Maher, and that isn’t even the entire cast! It’s like a Whedon alumni reunion, bringing together actors and actresses from other Whedon works like Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly and The Avengers, all in one film!

It doesn’t take much to get one excited about this film. If you love Joss Whedon, or Shakespeare, or that cast, or the style, or the story, or whether you just want to watch something other than a big budget blockbuster in the cinema…Much Ado About Nothing ticks so many boxes. Definitely a must-see movie to look out for.

Much Ado About Nothing is set for a June 14th release in the UK. It stars Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof, and is written and directed by Joss Whedon. Much Ado Abouth Nothing is based on the William Shakespeare play of the same name.
