First Teaser for Thor: The Dark World

It’s a good time to be a Marvel geek. Iron Man 3 is almost here (you can read the review here) and we finally have our first trailer for Thor: The Dark World. Directed by Alan Taylor (of Game of Thrones fame), this next venture for the Asgardian hero is set to expand the Thor mythos and show us a bit of those other realms. If that doesn’t intrigue you then I suggest you watch the trailer right now!

So many questions, but where do we start? Why is that truck floating? Why is Jane Foster going to Asgard? What’s going on with Loki’s hair? We might not be able to answer much yet but you can always give the synopsis a read.

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.  Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Obviously this batch of Marvel sequels will all be dealing with “the aftermath of The Avengers” but Thor (Chris Hemsworth) might be a little different. He’s an Asgardian anyway, so fighting a bunch of aliens in New York isn’t going to faze him. Might we possibly get to see Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) reaction to all of this?

The real change for Thor will most likely come from the director behind it all, Alan Taylor. The film has already been described as being similar to the HBO show in tone, which is definitely not a bad thing and it will be interesting to see gritty realism crossed with cosmic dilemmas.

Though what most people (or at least people of the internet) will be looking forward to is seeing Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in action once again. Thor is turning to him for help but is that for better or worse? We’ll have to wait and see. I’m personally hoping we get to see an awesome “suit up” moment with Loki getting a haircut and dressing up in his cool helmet again.

Thor: The Dark World is out in the UK October 30th and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Christopher Eccleston and Anthony Hopkins. It is directed by Alan Taylor.
