Kao=s UK Debut Concert announced

Are you a fan of rock music with a classic Japanese inspired spin to it? What about Japanese inspired indie pop or techno? Well if any of those sound appealing to you then you might want to look into Japan Underground and Terracotta Festival’s Japanese Music Extravaganza event happening in London next week.

Happening at London’s “The Pipeline” basement music venue on Middlesex Street on June 10th at 7PM, the evening will feature a UK debut headline set from Kao=s (pronounced chaos), as well as three separate support acts.

Kao=s’ music takes traditional heavy rock sounds and mixes them with the light flutes, gentle strings and other sounds traditionally associated with the kind of music you’d hear in a samurai film score. Combining energy with traditional Japanese culture, the best way to describe their live sets is to imagine L’Arc En Ciel with a female sword dancer on stage.

The night will also feature support acts ERIKA, Hibiki & Tommo and The Newmarkets. ERIKA’s music features a mix of the London musical theatre scene, 90s rave, heavy rock influences and Japanese sensibilities, all wrapped up in a fairly dark lyrical tone. It’s some of the darkest pop inspired music you’ll come across and it’s certainly a unique mix of styles.

Hibiki of Hibiki & Tommo is probably best known for being the UK’s only professional player of Tsugaru Shamisen, a musical style from the Aomori prefecture of the Japanese island of Honshū. He’s performed for very important people while in the UK, including playing music at the Japanese emperor’s birthday celebrations at the Japanese Embassy in London.

The Newmarkets will also be performing a set during the evening. Their music takes techno and rock music, layering them with melodic vocal tracks and musical harmonies.

Tickets for the event will cost £5 in advance, or £7 on the door. You can find out more about the event by clicking here
