International Trailer for Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut Man of Tai Chi

Man of Tai Chi (Keanu Reeves and Tiger Chen)

A new second trailer has emerged for Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut Man of Tai Chi, showing a lot more footage, fighting, corny dialogue (“Finish him”) and even a glimpse of The Raid’s Iko Uwais.

Having perfected the ancient art of Tai Chi, Tiger (Tiger Chen) has started to make a name for himself in the prestigious Wulin Wang martial arts championship. This has come to the attention of Donaka Mark (Keanu Reeves), a powerful Hong Kong businessmen who runs a secret underground fighting ring. Fighters can earn money by defeating their opponents in a no-holds barred fight, privately broadcast to wealthy patrons. Looking for a new star, Donaka tries to lure Tiger with the promise of easy money. At first, Tiger declines, but when his temple is threatened with redevelopment he relents and soon becomes an underground sensation.

As well as directing, Reeves stars as the villain Donaka Mark and the trailer also shows him getting in on some of the action himself. The fight scenes have been choreographed by Yuen Wo-Ping and Chen is also a member of Wo-Ping’s stunt team. He was also Reeves’ trainer during The Matrix trilogy. The three have collaborated again, with Reeves revealing that the film has over a dozen action sequences.

Scripted by Michael G. Cooney (of Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 6), Man of Tai Chi also stars Karen Mok, Yu Hai, Ye Qing, Simon Yam and tricker Jeremy Marinas. The Weinstein Company and its affiliate studio Radius-TWC acquired the US distribution rights to the film at Cannes last month, however there is currently no release date yet.
