Star Wars Episode VII: Character Descriptions and Location Revealed

The process of casting for Star Wars: Episode VII has now begun, with the release to acting agents of seven short character descriptions. In addition, it’s also been announced that filming will take place at the UK’s famous Pinewood Studios.

Though brief and ambiguous, the casting calls have revealed just enough information to prompt a wave of Internet speculation about the characters’ identities. Below are the descriptions released so far:

A young man, aged between 20 and 25, witty and smart, fit but not classically handsome.

A man in late twenties, also fit, but this one is handsome and confident.

Late teenage girl, independent, good sense of humour also…physically fit.

Second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and physically fit.

Man in his forties, obviously physically fit, this one is a military type.

A man of around thirty or so, this one is an intellectual type.

Finally, a guy aged around seventy, strong opinions and tough.

Based on early rumours that the film’s narrative will incorporate the expanded Star Wars universe canon. The Mary Sue posits Jacen and Jaina Solo (twin children of Han and Leia) as potential leads, though the ages of the characters specified above would seem to suggest otherwise. What we can deduce from the insistence on physical fitness and quick wits, however, is that Star Wars: Episode VII looks set to be a pretty action-packed movie, as well as a very funny one. Already, it’s easy to imagine the dynamic relationships between these diverse characters, and if his recent Star Trek films are anything to go by, director J. J. Abrams is unlikely to disappoint.

As with Star Trek: Into Darkness, of course, Abrams‘ track record for keeping upcoming films’ details under wraps means that it’ll probably be some time before fans of the franchise are granted any more definitive insights. At this stage, however, perhaps guessing is all part of the fun.

Let us know your thoughts. Which Star Wars‘ characters’ stories would you like to see played out on the big screen?
