The TARDIS Lands at Heathrow – Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The TARDIS has landed at Heathrow: let the anniversary celebrations commence!

Said showrunner Steven Moffat of the Who-Heathrow partnership:

“We are delighted to announce another extension to Heathrow’s world-beating facilities – all of space and time in a stylish blue box, complete with phone. Heathrow with time travel – nobody need ever be late again.”

jennyVisitors to Terminal 5 yesterday encountered not only the Doctor’s iconic time machine, but also a Cyberman invasion, an array of props and memorabilia, and even special performances by the Philarmonic Orchestra. Books were signed by Jenny Colgan, author of Doctor Who: Dark Horizons, sporting a Tardis-themed corset designed by the fantastic seamstress MayFaire Moon. Fans of the show could also take snaps to remember their day in one of a number of Tardis photo booths.

Amanda Hill, chief brands officer for BBC Worldwide, said that,

“In its 50th Anniversary year we want to include fans around the world in our Doctor Who celebrations and this partnership with Heathrow is a fantastic way of capturing the attention of people from across the globe.”

But as well as attracting international attention, the 50th celebrations have also caught the eyes of those nearer to home. Earlier this month, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to the Doctor Who set, meeting members of the cast and crew.

No doubt the Doctor Who team have plenty more surprises in store for us between now and then! For now though, fans of the show can catch up with the Doctor Who Prom on BBC iplayer.
