Hold on to Your Capes: Warner Bros Announce a Batman/Superman Film For 2015

Batman Superman

For the first time ever, Batman and Superman will be united in a live action movie, as confirmed by Warner Bros and Man of Steel (see our review here) director Zack Snyder at a special San Diego Comic Con appearance.

Snyder went on to say, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest super heroes in the world.” David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel) will return to write the script alongside Snyder, whilst Christopher Nolan will take on an executive producer role in the film. Many cast members from Man of Steel will return, including Kal-El himself Henry Cavill, Amy Adams’ Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White and of course Diane Lane as Martha Kent. This hints that at least part of the film will be set near Metropolis, so maybe Batman is taking a holiday in the big city when he encounters his alien ally.

The movie will most likely bridge the gap between Man of Steel and the Justice League film, and will possibly be a way of introducing a new Batman to the world following from Christian Bale. With that in mind don’t hold out hope for a final battle between the two heavyweights similar to the climax of The Dark Knight Rises, but perhaps an interesting look at two characters with a volatile relationship which will have its head-to-head moments and also build a strong foundation for a rocky alliance. There are so many different ways to approach one of the longest-running relationships in not only comics, but any fiction, the radically contrasting characters have so much history that can be explored and developed. This could be one of the most anticipated films of 2015, after all, who would not love to see the two iconic heroes face-to-face, or for that matter farmer’s son Clark Kent meet billionaire Bruce Wayne. One thing that is certain is this has been on comic book fans’ wish list for a long time, and with the current standard of DC films (post Green Lantern, sorry Hal), it couldn’t come at a better time.

The currently untitled Batman/Superman crossover will film in 2014 for an expected 2015 release.
