Pokémon: The Origin anime to air in October

Pokemon the Origin posterTo celebrate the release of the upcoming Pokémon X and Y on the Nintendo 3DS, a special anime will air in Japan in October titled Pokémon: The Origin. The anime is based on the Pokémon Red and Green (Blue in the US and UK) games that were originally released on Nintendo’s Game Boy back in the 1990s.

It follows Red as he receives his first Pokémon, Charmander, from Professor Oak. Travelling around Kanto, Red battles opponents such as the Gym Leader Brock and also his rival, Green, ultimately reaching Pokémon Tower where he confronts Team Rocket. 

The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel has begun streaming a trailer.

The official Japanese site has also unveiled images and information about the characters.

Pokemon the Origin (Red)

Red – The protagonist who sets out on an adventure to catch all the Pokémon.

Pokemon the Origin (Green)

Green – A rival of Red’s and the grandson of Professor Oak.

Pokemon the Origin (Brock)

Brock – The Gym Leader of Pewter City, trained in Rock-type Pokémon.

Pokemon the Origin (Oak)

Professor Oak – An authority in Pokémon research.

Pokemon the Origin (Mom)

Mom – Red’s mother.

Pokémon: The Origin will air on TV TOKYO in Japan on 2 October.
