Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z Powers Up with New Details!

Namco Bandai have fired out a volley of exciting new details on the upcoming fighting game, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, set to hit PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360 consoles in the near future. This latest installment for the Dragon Ball Z franchise offers team-based combat, letting players team up with friends or computer allies to face powerful opponents and battle it out in chaotic 4-on-4 brawls. So far, there haven’t been many details on which characters will be returning or debuting in the game, but a new piece of character art shown below reveals a few familiar and not-so familiar faces that will be joining the action:

The art shows the return of fan favourites like Super Saiyan Vegeta, Future Trunks, Kid Buu and Cell whilst also adding the God of Destruction Bills, villain of the recent Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie into the mix. There’s even Goku’s Super Saiyan God form that debuted in the same movie, who game producer Shuhei Sekii said in a recent interview will be “a bit stronger than the other characters“. With the game featuring both movie and Saga villains, and previously confirmed “What if?” scenarios, it seems that fans will have many more battles waiting for them than the current Frieza Saga based gameplay would suggest. Not only that, but a gameplay video also revealed that there will be over 70 characters to round out the game’s sizable roster, including giant characters like Great Ape Vegeta. Most of the characters are yet to be revealed, but it is said that each of them will be split into Fighting, Ki-Blast, Support and Interference Types to offer different approaches and challenges to combat.

Whilst there is little detail on other gameplay features outside of the battles, there has also been some new information on the customisation features offered to players that allows for colour changes to costumes, along with the chance to apply items to boost skills and give effects outside of experience based progression to add even more variety and difficulty to fights! So far, Dragon Ball: Battle of Z is set for a 2014 release on PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360 from Namco Bandai Games, but for now here’s a new gameplay video from Gamescom showing a battle against Frieza:
