Kickstarter Launched for Mysterious Cities of Gold Video Game

Who here remembers The Mysterious Cities of Gold? I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t; over thirty years old and only getting a single season, the French and Japanese combination anime has been off the scene for a very long time. A second season has been airing in France and Belgium and should be coming to England with an English dub in 2014 from Fabulous Films.

To tie in with the revival of the series, developer Neko Entertainment and publisher Ynnis Interactive have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $30,000 to help localise their new game, The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths. Based on the series the game is set to be released for Wii U, 3DS and iOS platforms.

Originally they had planned to release the game in French only. However, the money from the Kickstarter will be used to bring the game to PC, create a fully English dubbed version and provide Spanish subtitles, with an additional language being added each time they reach a stretch goal.

Apparently drawing from recent puzzle platform inspirations such as The Cave, the game aims to bring the series back in a way that will be accessible and enjoyable for adults who grew up watching the original series, as well as children that are exploring the universe for the first time through the second season. The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths is set to remain incredibly faithful to the series’ art style, musical style and storyline.

What do you think? Did you grow up on the series? If you have children, would you love to share it with them? Is this enough to interest you in watching the original series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
