Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge – Syfy’s New Competition Series

Earlier this week, NBCUniversal‘s Syfy channel gave the greenlight to eight episodes of a new competition-based series that will see ten wannabe puppet-makers go head-to-head to win $100,000 plus a contract working at the world-famous Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

Jhcs_logoContestants on Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge can expect to show their skills in all kinds of creature-making, from simple, whimsical puppets to huge mechanical beasts. Leading the panel of judges will be Jim Henson’s son, Brian Henson, himself an award-winning writer, producer and director, while three long-term Creature Shop artists – designer Peter Brooke, mechanisation and animatronics master John Criswell, and fabrication and artistic specialist Julie Zobel – will act as mentors to the competitors.

JimandMuppetsThe show follows a similar format to the network’s Face Off series, currently in its fifth season, in which aspiring special effects make-up artists compete for prize money and expensive professional make-up.

Scheduled to premiere early next year, the series will be produced by The Jim Henson Company, with Brian Henson and his sister Lisa taking on executive producer roles alongside Joseph Freed and Rob Bagshaw.
