American Film Institute Announce Their Top Films and TV of 2013

With the awards season now picking up pace in the US, the American Film Institute (AFI) have announced their top ten lists for TV and film (the 14th such list for movies) for 2013.

Both lists feature a mixture of some of the big hits and some of the critics favourites and interestingly enough both of them also miss out one or two that you would not expect (such as Homeland and Modern Family in the case of TV and Philomena in their list of films).

That said with the previous year’s list of top movies usually seen as a good barometer when it comes to the Oscars (last year’s list had eight out of nine Oscar nominees in it), it seems that Tom Hanks and George Clooney amongst others, should be dusting off their tuxedos.

Ten Best Movies:

12 Years A Slave

American Hustle

Captain Phillips

Fruitvale Station

Inside  Llewyn Davis

Saving Mr. Banks

The Wolf of Wall Street

Ten Best TV Shows:

The Americans

Breaking Bad

Game of Thrones

The Good Wife

House of Cards

Mad Men

Masters of Sex

Orange is the New Black
