Sherlock Series 4 and 5 – Steven Moffat & Sue Vertue Confirm Plans

For all those Sherlock fans already lamenting the fact that Series 3 is almost over, this bit of good news should help cheer you up: the show’s writer and producer couple, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue, have now officially confirmed that plans for two more series are underway.

Back in March, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he had already been contracted for a fourth series, but until now, nothing beyond that had been promised. However, at yesterday’s BAFTA preview screening of His Last Vow, Sue Vertue and Steven Moffat informed excited listeners that Series 4 is definitely going ahead, and that stories have already been plotted out for a fifth season.

“Rather excitingly, Mark [Gatiss] and I, for no particular reason, we just got out of the rain and sat at the top of the production bus… and we just started plotting out what we could do in the future,” said Moffat. ” And we plotted out the whole of Series 4 and 5.”

According to Moffat, there will be plenty to look forward to over the next couple of series:

“So we have got plans – but our plans don’t tend to be ‘Let’s blow up the world or cast the most famous person in the world,’ they tend to be, ‘What exciting twists and turns can we add to this?’ And I think we’ve got some crackers! The ideas we had that day, I thought, were the best we’ve ever had.”

His Last Vow will be broadcast on BBC One at 8.30pm on Sunday 12th January. Dates for Series 4 are yet to be confirmed.
