Toei’s new Sailor Moon anime to appear this July

Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary logo (Eng) (2)The new Sailor Moon anime was announced back in 2012 as a part of its 20th anniversary. It was set to air in the summer of 2013, only to then be pushed back to the winter of 2013/2014. With fans eagerly waiting, the latest announcement from the official Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary site reveals that the anime will be broadcast worldwide via Nico Nico Douga this July.

The latest announcement also detailed the staff involved. Headed by the original studio Toei Animation, the series will be directed by Munehisa Sakai, with Atsutoshi Umezawa as producer (both of whom are known for their work on One Piece). Supervising the script is Yūji Kobayashi and the theme song will be performed by Momoiro Clover Z. There are currently no details on the voice acting cast.

Producer Umezawa mentioned in a press release through Toei that the new series is not a remake of the anime but an adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga that is starting from scratch. Amazingly no one has seen anything from this new series yet (they’re doing a pretty good job preventing any leaks), though Umezawa assures fans that the staff are working hard to show everyone a whole new Sailor Moon. Hopefully there will be no more delays.

Sistar as Sailor Scouts in 11st CommercialKeeping Sailor Moon in the spotlight, K-pop group Sistar donned Sailor Scout costumes to appear in a commercial for Korean online retailer 11st, dancing to a variation of the Midnight Densetsu theme, as well as performing wire-work stunts. 11st are also running a promotion on their site to have viewers perform their own covers to the full dance.
