Only Fools and Horses Roger Lloyd-Pack Dies

untitled Roger lloyd packRoger Lloyd-Pack, best known for playing lovable simpleton Trigger in Only Fools and Horses, has died aged 69 of pancreatic cancer at his home in Kentish Town, North London last night.

Sir David Jason led the tributes to the highly respected actor saying, “I was very saddened to hear of Roger’s passing. He was a very quiet, kind and unassuming actor who was a pleasure to work with…Although he played the simple soul of Trigger in Only Fools and Horses, he was a very intelligent man and a very fine actor capable of many roles. I shall remember him with fondness and for all the good times we had together.”

A steady stream of tributes followed today from fellow Only Fools and Horses actors John Challis and Nicholas Lyndhurst who described him as, “an accomplished actor and loved by millions.”

Father Ted creator Graham Linehan also tweeted, “Very sad news about Roger Lloyd Pack. Trigger was an ancestor to Father Dougal and I’m glad I once had a chance to tell him so.”

Roger Lloyd Pack began his acting career after studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, no doubt following in his father’s footsteps who regularly appeared in the Hammer Horror films throughout the 1950s and 60s. Aside from Only Fools and Horses he starred in a vast range of sitcoms and dramas, including poplar sitcom The Vicar of Dibley as foulmouthed farmer Owen Newitt, and shows such as Health and Efficiency, The Old Guys, Hustle and Doctor Who as Head of Cybus Industries John Lumic to name a few.

The versatile actor also appeared in films such as The Magus, Meetings with Remarkable Men, the 1969 film adaptation of Hamlet and more recently Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Roger Lloyd Pack was a prolific political campaigner and supporter of various charities. He supported Ken Livingston during the London Mayoral Election campaign in 2012 and in 2013 signed a letter published in the Guardian stating a change of favour from Labour to a new left wing party.

His death follows the news last month that Only Fools and Horses may be returning to our TV screens within the next few years. If so, it will be missing a much loved character.
