Race for Real with JAKKS Pacific’s New Mario Kart Ride-On

This week, US toy company JAKKS Pacific has unveiled its Super Mario Kart Ride-On, a real-life version of the kart featured in the Mario Kart 7 video game.

This latest addition to JAKKS Pacific’s range of 6V ride-ons, the Super Mario Kart Ride-On was created in partnership with Nintendo, and will be available to buy in the UK from Autumn/Winter this year. While it will feature the full range of in-game sound effects, sadly, though perhaps wisely, it won’t be coming with all the banana skins, mushrooms, red shells and other items that normally accompany them in the 3DS game. It will, however, feature changeable tyres that can be swapped for on- and off-road driving.

Said JAKKS Pacific’s Ken Goodison:

“For the first time ever, you can be in the driver seat of your very own Nintendo Kart. It’s an exciting little runner that we expect to sit competitively within other 6V ride-ons and with it being so relevant to the Nintendo Mario Kart, it should do very well.”

The new toy is the result of a deal made by Nintendo with JAKKS Pacific last year, offering rights to toys and costumes linked to many of its major brands including Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong. At the time, Steve Singer, Vice President of Licensing for Nintendo of America said that the company was,

“eager to offer, a robust and comprehensive line up of products to satisfy our fan base and generations of Nintendo enthusiasts. This partnership with JAKKS Pacific affords us tremendous opportunity to grow the presence of our iconic brands at retail.”

No doubt the release of Mario Kart 8 for Wii U in May will also help build hype around the product.
