Warner Bros Announce Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knight

Gotham’s reckoning has arrived, as WB Games reveal that Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City developers Rocksteady have returned for their latest title for PC and next-gen consoles, Batman: Arkham Knight, which is set to be released this year. This revelation has been speculated for some time, after Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in the acclaimed Batman The Animated Series and the previous Rocksteady Arkham titles let it slip that he was involved in a project with the veteran developers.

After the externally handled Arkham Origins from Warner Bros. Montreal, fans of the series have been wondering what exactly was going on below the foundations of Rocksteady Manor. The announcement was coupled with an incredibly cinematic trailer that introduces the series’ first drivable Batmobile, mouth-watering visuals and old enemies all topped off with Thomas Wayne’s testament to our cowled crusader.

The game will follow the events that took place in Arkham City, and will see the return of Gotham’s most nefarious villains headed by Scarecrow, set on the destruction of Gotham City and the Dark Knight himself. Rocksteady Game Director Sefton Hill has said that “The team at Rocksteady Studios is putting a tremendous amount of work into delivering the final chapter of our Batman: Arkham trilogy so that fans can feel what it’s like to be the Batman.” It suggests that this could be the most detailed instalment in the legendary series to date.

As if that wasn’t enough, Hill has described the game’s setting as a “fully detailed and realized Gotham City”, leaving fans with the promise of the fully explorable Gotham that started with the view from Arkham all those years ago. He also mentions here that this will be Rocksteady’s last title in their Arkham trilogy, which is a sad moment for one of the most beloved videogame series in recent years, however the Arkham name itself will most likely live on with Warner Bros. Montreal. The fact is that with the incredible storytelling in their previous games, Gotham’s protector is not going to go out quietly.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released worldwide for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2014.
