Russo Brothers Directing Captain America 3 and Other Marvel Movie News

Russo Brothers are confirmed for Captain America 3

Captain America isn’t out yet but responses from test screenings have been so positive that Marvel Studios are keen for the same creative team to come back for another round. Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed that both will be coming back to direct the third instalment. In fact they’re already looking at story ideas.

“Well now that Kevin [Feige] said it that means we can talk about it, I guess. That’s great. We’re just in the formative stages of it right now. We just started breaking story with [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely and we’re just getting an idea of what we wanna do with it.

It’s crazy working on it before the movie even comes out because you want to see what people respond to in the movie. You want to get some inspiration from what people like about the film so you go, ‘Okay, this is what we gotta lean into in the next movie’ or ‘this is what we should move away from, this didn’t work so well.’ So we’re just in that phase of breaking story but waiting to see how people respond to the movie.”

Chris Evans isn’t abandoning Marvel

There were a few worried rumours floating around after an interview with Chris Evans in which he expressed his hopes of moving away from acting to direct.

“I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting. With acting, you’re one piece in a very big puzzle. It’s like you helped buy a gift but you don’t know what the gift is, so you come back and see the movie. Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s tragic.”

Thankfully he’s cleared up a few things since then and assured us he’s not about to run out on Marvel.

“Oh yeah, this was a big thing! I gotta watch what I say. I will absolutely clarify. I have a six-movie contract with Marvel and I absolutely plan on fulfilling them. This is without a doubt the biggest blessing in my life. Marvel has literally changed the game for me, and they make great movies. I did direct last year and it was a really fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it. So I’m certainly looking to do that a bit more, so when it comes to exploring other acting jobs I may not be as proactive in trying to find those, I may kind of stick with my Marvel universe in terms of getting in front of the camera, and then getting behind the camera outside of it.”

The search is on for a Doctor Strange director

It’s fair to say we probably won’t see any more Iron Man movies and for a post Tony Stark world, Kevin Feige wants us to have someone special to fill the void. Doctor Strange probably couldn’t be much further from Iron Man, for one thing he’s a master of magic and is a bit more straight-laced. However this is a franchise that Feige clearly believes has potential.

Scott Derrickson is the latest director to be added to the shortlist. An unusual choice seeing as he’s mainly made his name in horror movies, such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister, but then again Marvel are fairly used to making unusual choices by this point. Previously mentioned in regards to directing duties were Mark Andrews, Jonathan Levine, Nikolaj Arcel and Dean Israelite.

Out of those Mark Andrews (Brave) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) have supposedly made it to the shortlist. There’s still time for this decision to go in a completely different direction so count them as rumours for now.

Four Fantastic actors on shortlist for role of Doctor Doom

(Did ya see what I did there? Yes? No? Oh, never mind.) The Fantastic Four movie already has its cast of heroes but we’re yet to hear a decision about its Doctor Doom. Director Josh Trank has narrowed down his choice of actors to four lovely men from the UK and Ireland. Which means another British baddie is possibly on the cards. Their names are Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables), Sam Riley, Toby Kebbell (War Horse) and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time).
