New children’s editions of Harry Potter to be released

CaptureBloomsbury Children’s Books have announced new editions of all seven Harry Potter books to be released on 1st September 2014.

Not only will the books feature covers by award-winning artist Jonny Duddle, but also include an updated author biography, as well as highlights from Pottermore, the digital platform for Harry Potter. Pottermore will also publish the eBook editions at the same time.

Reset for a child-friendly reading experience for a new generation of readers, Bloomsbury and J. K. Rowling worked together on these new editions, selecting Duddle for the prestigious job of creating the artwork. Duddle has previously won the Waterstones Children’s Prize and been shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. On being chosen to design the covers Jonny Duddle said “I’m hugely excited to work my way through the wonderful books. I couldn’t have asked for more enjoyable subject matter. It’s exciting, daunting and I feel the weight of responsibility, and I’m just hoping that my illustrations faithfully reflect the characters and world created by J.K.Rowling.”

There is plenty to come in the future for Harry Potter fans old and new, including the previously announced Bloomsbury/Pottermore publication of Jim Kay’s fully illustrated colour edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Autumn 2015, available in hardback and eBook formats. The remaining titles will publish annually from then on. Even more Harry Potter plans are due to be announced at the London Book Fair in April.

With these new versions of the books, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, and the upcoming developments in Universal in Florida, the Harry Potter franchise is here to stay for many years.
