A new video appeared on the YouTube channel for 2000AD, with Karl Urban informing fans of Dredd that he is working with the film’s writer and producer Alex Garland in getting a sequel underway.
“I just wanted to say on behalf of everybody involved with the film Dredd, from Alex Garland to the DNA boys to myself, we really, really appreciate it,” said Urban. “We’re working very, very hard to bring you Dredd 2.”
Despite high praise from fans and positive reviews, the film faltered at the box office. With a $50 million production budget, it earned just $35.6 million worldwide. However, it has since become a huge seller on DVD and Blu-Ray. A comic book sequel also appeared in the form of Dredd: Underbelly.
In an interview with MCM Buzz, Garland revealed that there are stories he would like to tell in a sequel, citing ‘Origins’ and ‘The Cursed Earth’ and that it would also include the characters Chopper and Judge Death.
