Farscape Movie – Creator Rockne S. O’Bannon Confirms Plans

Following comments made by writer Justin Monjo back in February, rumours of a possible Farscape feature film have been circulating since February. It wasn’t until Saturday, however, that the news was officially confirmed by the show’s creator, Rockne S. O’Bannon.

Speaking at California’s WonderCon, O’Bannon (now the showrunner on post-apocalyptic, sci-fi drama Revolution) not only confirmed that a movie script is currently in the works, but also that Brian Henson is already on board with the project. Apparently, it’s mostly thanks to him that work on the film has continued:

“He was like a dog with a bone,” said O’Bannon. “He would not give up on it.”

O’Bannon did stress that they’re still in “early, early stages”, but despite this, some plot details have already been outed. The film is believed to follow the story of John’s and Aeryn’s son, who rejoins his parents after running into trouble with some alien villains. Here’s the summary reported by if.com.au back in February:

“In the finale, the protagonists, American astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) and peacekeeper Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) got married and had a baby. In the movie, it’s revealed the boy had special powers which made him the target of the villainous aliens so his parents hide him on Earth.

The plot follows the kid at the age of 19 when his whereabouts have been discovered and he rejoins his parents on their spaceship.”

There’s no word yet on whether the film will be given a cinematic release, or if it will be broadcast on television or online – possibly, its creators aren’t yet sure of that themselves. Nevertheless, this is bound to be exciting news for fans of the show, who will no doubt welcome a return in any medium.
