Jem and the Holograms: First Look

tumblr_n4isiw8WpZ1tv61rvo1_r3_1280Could popular culture from the 1980’s be making a resurgence? Well you wouldn’t be crazy for thinking so. With a recent reboot of Robocop, and talks of The Goonies 2Jem and The Holograms is the latest offering in these 80’s adaptations.

Jem and the Holograms was an animated television show that ran between 1985 and 1988. It chronicled the life of Jerrica Burton and her alter ego Jem, who was the lead singer of the band: Jem and the Holograms.

The original show was a collaboration between Hasbro, Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions. The trio were also the force behind the Transformers and G.I. Joe series’ respectively, and their live adaptation successes led to Jem and The Holograms being optioned, with Jon M. Chu at the helm.

Just yesterday in a twitter postChu released a first look at the stars of the movie, with fans squealing with excitement as Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko got announced as Jem, Kimber, Shana and Aja respectively.

Whilst Jem and the Holograms, is something that is relatively unknown to newer generations, this could be a project that will recapture the love the franchise had in the 80’s, now in the 21st century.
