Full trailer for live-action Lupin the Third film

Lupin III posterA fun-filled trailer full of action and explosions has arrived for the upcoming Lupin the Third film. Based on Monkey Punch’s manga series, the film is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (responsible for the likes of Versus and Azumi) and is written and produced by Mataichirō Yamamoto.

Staring Shun Oguri in the lead role as Arsène Lupin, the film sees the thief attempt to steal the Crimson Heart of Cleopatra, a valuable jewel that is guarded in a fortress-like safe known as the Ark of Navarone. The cast also includes Tadanobu Asano as Inspector Zenigata, Tetsuji Tamayama as Daisuke Jigen, Gô Ayano as the samurai Goemon Ishikawa and Meisa Kuroki as Fujiko Mine.

During the 90-second trailer we do see a few iconic references. As well as using his weapon of choice, the Walther P38, Lupin is also seen leaving a ‘calling card’ and driving his yellow Fiat 500. We also hear Goeman utter his catchphrase after destroying a car (“Once again I have cut a worthless object”). The trailer features the new theme song Trick Attack – Theme of Lupin The Third, written and performed by Tomoyasu Hotei.

Lupin the Third opens in Japan on 30 August.
